Safari Itinerary

During this 14 days tour, you will experience the great migration – an epic struggle for survival and a monumental feat of strength and determination; animals cross rivers and plain, braving ferocious predators both on land and in rivers. On this tour, you will also experience Ngorongoro crater, a place like no other in the world;  here, humans and animals coexist in a deep, unflooded and unbroken volcanic crater that is home to about 30,000 animals at any time.

The great migration is an epic journey of survival; it is the largest movement of animals in the world where  over 1 million wildebeest make this epic journey accompanied by about 400,000 zebras and 200,000 antelopes. The numbers are so huge that the spectacle can be seen from space.

The journey takes animals from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area into the Serengeti and then up through the plains of the Serengeti into the Maasai Mara in Kenya and back again.

Upon arrival at Arusha Airport (ARK) or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), our driver will drive you to your hotel in Arusha. Depending on the time of arrival you will also have time to explore the city and the vibrant Maasai market where you will shop for souvenirs. If you arrive late, do not worry, you will still have time to go shopping on the last day of Safari.

Dinner and overnight accommodation at your hotel in Arusha.

Today you will visit Olpopongi Maasai Village where you will interact with the Maasai and experience their culture in an authentic setting.

In the afternoon, you will head out to Shanga Cultural Village where you will interact with friendly locals dedicated to promoting local arts and crafts. At Shanga, you will have the opportunity to sample local cuisine served in an open-air restaurant and if interested you may buy local arts and crafts.

In the morning, your driver will drive you Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park for a day of game viewing. Lake Manyara is located within the Great Rift Valley and is dominated by a beautiful shallow soda lake that attracts colorful water birds. The park sits at the foot of towering escarpments of the Great Rift Valley.

At Lake Manyara National Park, you will see elephants, the world famous tree-climbing lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, hippos, impalas, baboons, and monkeys; you will also see many water birds but the most noticeable of these birds are the pink-hued flamingos.

In the evening, you will be driven to Karatu for dinner and overnight accommodation.

After a very early breakfast, your driver will drive you to the Serengeti – a land of endless plains, huge herds of wildebeests and the finest of African predators. Serengeti is the most visited park in Tanzania due to its grandeur and diversity of big game and predators.

You will arrive around noon ready for lunch; late in the afternoon, you will head of four a game drive before returning to your hotel/camp for dinner and accommodation.

In these four days, you will watch the great migration in awe as the herds traverse valleys and hills on their journey north towards the Mara River which is the greatest obstacle they have to overcome before reaching a land of abundance in the Masai Mara. Over 1,200,000 wildebeests, 200,000 zebras, 15,000 elands and 500,000 Thomson’s Gazelles will fill the entire stretch of landscape as far as your eyes can see.

The animals will then reach northern Serengeti near the Tanzania and Kenya border; in this region, the migrating herds have to brave the crocodile-infested Mara River in order to reach the Masai Mara. These four days will provide an amazing wildlife viewing experience as the herds brave the turbulent waters and the ferocious crocodiles of the Mara River. Some will lose their lives but the majority will cross to a land of abundance.

On the fifth day, you will return to Central Serengeti after spending a few days in the north near the Masai Mara.

Today you will enjoy game viewing in central Serengeti before heading out to Ngorongoro Crater for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, you will be driven to Ngorongoro Crater a place like no other in world; here, the largest unflooded caldera in the world is home to approximately 30,000 animals at any time. Ngorongoro Crater has the highest concentration of wild animals in Africa and these animals co-exist with humans; the Maasai people live and graze their animals inside the crater along the wild animals.

You will see herds of buffalos, elands, zebras, wildebeests, warthogs, hippos, rhinos and elephants; large populations of predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas also thrive here due to the rich availability of prey.

In the evening, you driver will drive you to a hotel on the crater rim for dinner and overnight accommodation.

After breakfast your driver will drive you to Lake Eyasi; this region is home to the Hadzabe bushmen who have managed to preserve the ancient ways of life. At Lake Eyasi an authentic cultural experience awaits you; the Hadzabe bushmen will willingly show you where they live and how they hunt and live their daily lives.

On this day you will also pay the Dagota pastoral nomads and herdsmen a visit; this is another tribe whose culture is well preserved. The Dagota culture resemble that of the Maasai but apart from being pastoralists, they are also blacksmiths; they make knives and arrowheads which they trade with the Hadzabe bushmen.

The weather around Lake Eyasi is nearly always very hot and intense, but this is what the experience truly African and unique.
Late in the afternoon, your driver will drive you back to Karatu for dinner and overnight accommodation.

After breakfast your driver will drive you to Tarangire National Park for a day of game viewing; although dominated by elephants, Tarangire also offers a great opportunity to see giraffes, waterbucks, impalas, baboons, warthogs, hippos, and spotted hyenas.

Today you will enjoy you morning at leisure; you can also opt to go shopping for local souvenirs at the Maasai market before being transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport for your departure flight back home.
